Nicholas made it all the way across the monkey bars at ‘the playground up the hill’ today! He was so proud! Once he realized he could do it, he did it over and over. He doesn’t even use momentum to swing, just his arm strength. I was amazed as I can barely do one! I should have been practicing right along with him all this time!

Alex took two steps today! He was holding onto the table leg and then turned to hold on to Helena who had just moved back two steps, so he was reaching out for her and walking! He just started cruising while holding on to things a few days ago, so I was very surprised. I don't think he really meant to do it, so we'll see if he repeats it anytime soon.
Alex weighed in at 20 lbs. and 30" at his one year check up today. That's only the 10th percentile for weight (50th for height) which surprised me because he eats a ton. I think he's eaten more than me for dinner on a couple of occasions, and I eat a lot.
He is very happy exploring the world right now. He loves throwing the ball back and forth, swinging, taking things off the shelf, out of the drawer, etc., being outside, laughing with Nicholas, giving hi-fives, and he loves his Mommy, of course. He's even cried a couple of times lately when I've left him with Gloria, which totally breaks my heart. He still hasn't said any discernable words, but I swear he has repeated "Nicholas" with the same intonation I use on more than one occasion. He didn't even whimper today when he had two shots in his leg, and the nurse warned me in advance that it would sting. He has such a happy disposition, if he cries you know something is really wrong. I love it when I get down on the floor and Alex immediately stops what he is doing and does a bee line for me. Then he rests his head on my hands or in my lap, whichever is closest. He is so very sweet!
He's been a good sleeper, usually taking two naps a day that last anywhere from 1 - 3 hours each! It's nice to have his naptime to spend quality time with Nicholas, but it will free us up to get out of the house more when he goes down to one. (It's essential to get out of the house with Nicholas at least once or twice a day!) Alex has been sleeping great at night and goes down without any fuss at 7:30. He usually wakes up around 5:30 and cries for a couple of minutes but then (usually) gets himself back to sleep until about 6:30. The problem is that Nicholas is now getting up around 6 - 6:30 and I think he really needs more sleep. Now that they get up around the same time anyway there is really no excuse for not moving Alex in to Nicholas' room. But it’s hard to make a big change when we’re all finally getting some decent sleep!

One of my favorite things Nicholas says is ‘sure.’ As in do you want to go to the park today Nicholas? “Oh, sure!” I can’t explain his intonation, but it’s quite funny to hear from a 3 year old! Sometimes he’ll say something I didn’t catch and I’ll ask him what he said. His reply, “I’m just talking to myself!”
